What I’ve Been Up To #DanThompson

Some of you may be wondering what I’ve been up to recently; what are you working on, Dan? There are a few people who have been hounding   gently probing when my next book will be out. As much as I’d like to say soon, the truth is, I don’t know. Here Lies Love was a little rushed, and I don’t want that for my next release.

Oooh, do you like the new layout? I decided a complete change was needed. Have a look around – see what you think. I also decided to change my twitter picture too – well, if you are going to change things up a bit, may as well do it properly.

Yesterday those of you that subscribe to my newsletter would have received an update you’ll see below, but with a few exclusive bits! Don’t want to miss out in future? Sign up to my newsletter here.

What I’ve Been Up To

Hi guys. I hope you’ve been well and are enjoying the new year so far. Can you believe it is February already? Where does the time go?

The Black Petal

Since the end of last year, I’ve been re-editing my young-adult (Teen) epic fantasy novel. If you like your stories full of magic and adventure, this will be right up your alley, I promise. I’ve finally finished the edits and have already sent out queries. It’s a tough one; some of the feedback I’ve had from this is that it isn’t overly commercial. It could be a while before I really know what lies in store for it. You can of course, add it to your goodreads to-read list to keep updated.

The Golden Lyre

The Golden Lyre is actually the sequel to The Black Petal – book two in the trilogy. I began work on it in November last year and I’m now about two thirds into writing it. Now the edits of The Black Petal are done, I’m looking forward to getting back into this. Where I left the main characters was at a bit of a cliffhangar. They were being sold in a slave auction!

Early this month I wrote my first poem in a very long time. Entitled In Love and In Lust, it’s a poem well suited to the Valentine’s Day spirit. It is out too in query for publication in poetry journals / magazines. My first poetry publication (well second actually) was Life is all a vast array of Colours. I worked with Pancreatic Cancer UK in creating a pamphlet that contains two of my poems as well as sure signs to look out for when diagnosing pancreatic cancer.

I have been reading quite a bit too, which is always a good thing. I’m currently reading Matthew Reilly’s The Great Zoo of China as well as nearly wrapping up Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. I finally got around to finishing the mammoth Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell – such great storytelling! I’d definitely recommend that if you have the attention span for long, complicated novels.

Stay safe, friends,
