Dreams Do Come True

It gives me a great sense of excitement, satisfaction and get up and do a little dance to announce that I’ve been signed by a publisher! I have already announced it over on my twitter and facebook pages, but it was really important for me to let things settle in a little before writing this post. Well, let’s face it, it could have been a dream! Right? NOPE – no dream.

And not just any publisher, I’ve been signed by Ghostly Publishing, which specialises in publishing fantasy books for children and teenagers. You may have heard me talking about them before, and indeed I’ve read many books by their authors, such as Blue Dust: Destiny by Katy Krump and Jimmy Threepwood and the Veil of Darkness by Rich Pitman. It really is an honor to follow in their footsteps and see where this journey takes me.

My teenage fantasy novel, The Black Petal is what I’ve been working on for some time to be picked up by a traditional publisher. It’s been a long road of hard work and complex editing to see it in its shape now, but I’m sure there is plenty of work still needed before the release date.

If you haven’t heard me rambling on about my myth inspired book, here is the long blurb:

Jack, a teenager from present, and Blake, a Victorian assassin, are plucked from their homes and awaken in a new land; a realm of fantasy and myth. Drawn into a war between two rival races, they must each choose allies. Jack wants to get home. Blake wants revenge. As the battle comes to a head, they realise they have unwittingly chosen different sides.

An Oracle has persuaded the Amazon Queen that a black petal will summon a powerful god who can grant them victory. A prophecy told long ago tells of a boy from another time who can discover this petal and the Amazon Queen is certain Jack is this boy. She offers him freedom and a way home in exchange.

Jack meets the orphaned, crimson haired Lucia inside a locked cave, serving as the girl’s prison. The two form an unbreakable bond as they guide each other across this unknown land. Chased by mysterious and deadly creatures, the Empusae, they must travel over a dangerous mountain range. Will Jack reach the petal in time or will he succumb to the yapping jaws of the Empusae? And what of Blake? What is the connection between Jack and the assassin that will surely shape their future?

The Black Petal is the first adventure in an exciting new trilogy that combines both magic and myth.

There is no definitive release date as of yet, but upon signing with Ghostly Publishing, it does state publication within 12 months. So we could be looking at a release date in early 2015, or maybe, we can see a sneaky release just in time for Christmas.

This is the mock cover for it. I have no doubt that it will change, but it’s a great start. I love the contrast between the flower and the obvious singular petal. As it is a fantasy book, we may see some more magical elements added to the cover.

But what is most important and breathtaking, is that you can now pre-order it from my publisher’s (yes, that’s right – my publisher’s) website. It ships internationally for free and using paypal means you can buy it from any country. So, if you are from America, Canada, Iceland or India, don’t worry – you can still buy now 🙂

I appreciate everyone of you that have supported me thus far. If you love magical stories, myths, epic stories that follow a variety of characters, then please support me further. I’m hoping that if this does well, then Ghostly Publishing will be interested in picking the entire trilogy up.

About Ghostly Publishing

Ghostly Publishing Logo

Ghostly Publisihing first opened its doors in 2011 and was founded by fantasy author, Neil Trigger. From year to year, it has grown in size and represents numerous authors.

Ghostly Publishing aims to challenge children and teenagers as readers, and also aspires to push boundaries by offering unique and creative fiction that are both original and fresh. They focus on fiction with an element of magic or the unknown, whether that is fantasy or science fiction, yet their ethos remains the same across its many books. Their readers must experience magic from the first moment, right up until the last word they read.

Please support my publisher by following them on Twitter and Facebook.

I’m going to leave it there and go off and dance some more. I’m excited for the experiences that are awaiting me over the next 12 months. I hope you stay with me, and maybe one day, we can meet over a signing event. I’m going to leave you with a picture that I hope will inspire you to not give up, no matter what dreams you have. I know you can achieve them – don’t let anyone tell you any different.

If you can dream it, you can do it.
