Introducing – Here Lies Love

Some of you may have seen me teasing my twitter followers and Facebook ‘likers’ with information about my current WIP (work in progress). I am pleased, however, to reveal that my new book is entitled Here Lies Love, which is a New Adult tale. It is particularly dark, and concerns Abbey, a teenage girl who discovers just how hard life can be. Here is the working synopsis, I hope you like it:

When she is sold by her father, Abbey discovers that nightmares can occur when you’re awake. Trapped inside a wooden cage, Abbey is forced to listen to the horrors and atrocities above; time ticking down until it is her turn. But Abbey isn’t prepared to become a victim; she will escape.

Although, what Abbey isn’t prepared for, is how harsh and unfair the world can be. With the sun turning its back on humanity long ago, life gives no opportunity. The only thing Abbey can do is learn to survive. To exist. And that means stealing any opportunity that comes her way. Haunted by the unpleasant memories bestowed upon her only nurtures Abbey’s paranoia, until she realises that to truly live in the world, she must confront the person who was responsible for her misfortune – her father.

Here Lies Love is a New Adult tale of actuality, of facing up to the fact that love comes in many guises. Can Abbey find the one glimmer of hope or will she be overcome with the darkness of revenge?

Goodreads logo2What do you guys think? It has a hint of dystopian about it, and I can understand why some people may automatically assume it is horror, but it’s more of a psychological drama. The New Adult market is relatively new, but it is more of an older teenage market than YA (young adult) and I feel it suits Here Lies Love a lot more. Please add it to your To Read shelf over on Goodreads. It will be published in 2014 in both eBook and Paperback. I have already been in contact with a professional designer about creating the front artwork for the book – I’m a huge fan of Ravven’s work, and I feel her talent will be perfect. I will of course be holding a cover reveal some time in the new year.

You may have missed it earlier, but I’m giving one lucky person the FB logochance to name one of the male characters in the book. I’ve now set up a contact form below, so get in touch, send me your suggestions. The best ones will be revealed in a poll, with the winning entry also receiving a signed paperback upon the book’s release. I’ve been babbling on about Here Lies Love over on my Facebook page, as well as revealing some of the content. Hop on over and ‘like’ me to keep up to date. To tease you a little more, here’s a paragraph I’ve already shown:

The horrific cries wailed through Abbey’s ears like a swarm of hissing wasps. She clamped her rough hands against them, desperately trying to drown out the nightmare that played out in the room above. Yet she still could sense the atrocity, and it gripped her guts like twisted barbed wire. Abbey retched, the bile burning her throat. She wanted to cry; cry for herself, cry for the girl upstairs, for she knew that whatever he was doing, it was a portent for what was waiting for her.

Competition deadline has passed. Thanks to all that entered.

  1. And now we know! Woot! Thanks for not tormenting us for too long, Dan. 🙂

    1. He he 🙂 so any name suggestions?

  2. I’m afraid I’m rubbish at names, hence no suggestion from me. I’m currently attempting to think up a title for my WIP which sells it a little better than ‘New Book’.

    1. That’s great, Alison. How do you usually come up with titles? Do you have a eureka moment!

  3. Glad you have finally revealed all after all that teasing, Dan! It sounds brilliant, I’m looking forward to it already!

    1. Thanks , Jaimie 🙂 I appreciate that a lot! You know, you could always enter the name competition too … 😉

      1. I’m bad enough at naming my own characters, Dan! 😉 It’s a fun competition to run though, I’m sure you’ll get loads of entries!

  4. Now this does sound intriguing. Looking forward to reading it. ;o)
