What a year 2012 has been. For me, it has been an up and down year, but one that will stay with me for a while. It was in this year that I started my blog (yes the one you are reading now). It was also the year I finished my debut novel, albeit not entirely polished. It has also been the year I self-published my very first ebook and went on to appear in the local newspaper and talk live on BBC radio.
There are probably many people I should thank, but I probably will forget to mention some people, which I apologise for before hand. Firstly, I need to thank the people who read my blog and come back each and every time I post a new post. I try and vary my posts, ranging from books, films, TV shows, music, writing and also, importantly for me, Author interviews. Neil Trigger, author of The Midnight Chronicles was my first Author Interview and that kick started a campaign that took over many weeks. I received review copies of new books for 2012 to read and review as well as interviewing the authors too, which I can wholeheartedly say has been a fun and very thrilling experience. From Candace Knoebel to Rich Pitman, Elizabeth Guizzetti to Katy Krump, genres as ranged from fantasy to science fiction.
I also need to thank the kind and supportive people who have ‘liked’ my The Black Petal Facebook page so they can keep up to date with my writing projects and follow my journey with me.
I also need to thank Jack Croxall and Tony Gilbert, who so kindly offered to read my manuscript and comment on the story and characters. It has been people like them that has shown me that support and friendship is out there for newbie writers and building up a contacts list has been incredible.
The Black Petal is still in the hands of my editor, Doug Watts, but after reading the unpolished manuscript, Jack Croxall has said
‘An absorbing, imaginative storyline.’
I also received an email the other day from American author, Elizabeth Guizzetti, who has awarded me with a small award, which you can see below. A big thanks to Elizabeth for coming back to regularly read my blog.
This is a rotating award, which encourages you to support and celebrate your favourite blogs and I think it is a nice way to give a little gift to someone who writes posts that entertain you and give you something to smile about.
I am going to give this award to two people.
The first is to Australian author Dianne Gray, whose blog never fails to make me laugh. She has such a witty and comical voice and her posts are engaging and very insightful. Please do check it out.
The second blog goes to Jack Croxall. Like me, Jack is an unpublished writer, but his blog tends to question and summarise writing techniques and ideas. You should definitely check his blog out, plus join his Facebook page to keep up with updates about his debut novel, Tethers.
Which leaves me to say that I hope everyone had a fantastic festive season no matter where in the world you are and I hope everyone has a successful and happy new year! I’ll see you in 2013!
Here are the rules of the award:
The ‘rules’ for this award are simple:
1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award
2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.
3 Please include a link back to this page
and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)
4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them
5 You can now also join our Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page
and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience
6 As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…
Yes – that’s right – there are stars to collect!
Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!
When you begin you will receive the ‘1 star’ award – and every time you are given the award by another blog – you can add another star!
There are a total of 6 stars to collect.
Which means that you can check out your favourite blogs – and even if they have already been given the award by someone else – you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!
Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Badges
Here are the six badges for you to collect – you can either ‘swop’ your badge for the next one each time you are given the award – or even proudly display all six badges if you are lucky enough to be presented with the award six times!
